What the regulator says
Each answer below is what a named authority publishes, quoted so you can check it, with the date we last confirmed it against their page.
Do Maine employers need workers’ compensation coverage?
The Maine Bureau of Insurance states that the law requires almost all public and private employers to have workers’ compensation coverage. Maine sets no employee-count threshold — the obligation attaches to being an employer, and the Bureau publishes the narrow exemptions separately rather than a headcount you can sit under.
“The law requires almost all public and private employers to have workers' compensation coverage.”
Who must carry auto insurance in Maine?
The Maine Bureau of Insurance states that anyone who owns or operates a vehicle in Maine must carry at least the minimum amounts of insurance required by law, and that proof of it must be presented to register a vehicle. The Bureau adds that the required limits are a starting point and may not adequately protect the owner's assets. The dollar figures are published on a linked page rather than this one, so they are not reproduced here.
“Anyone who owns or operates a vehicle in Maine must carry at least the minimum amounts of insurance required by law, and proof of this insurance must be presented in order to register your vehicle(s).”
