Florida
What the Florida authorities publish about business insurance, quoted directly, with a link and a date on every answer.
A private market, so what you pay depends on which carriers will write your class. Thresholds, filings and deadlines are set and changed by the Florida Department of Financial Services, Division of Workers’ Compensation — confirm yours there or with a licensed producer.
What the regulator says
Each answer below is what a named authority publishes, quoted so you can check it, with the date we last confirmed it against their page.
What triggers workers’ compensation coverage for a Florida construction employer?
Under its Construction Industry heading, the Florida Division of Workers’ Compensation states that employers with one or more employees, including owners who are corporate officers or Limited Liability Company members, must have workers’ compensation coverage. The word construction appears in that heading rather than in the sentence itself, which is why the scope is attributed here rather than folded into the quote.
“Employers with one or more employees, including the owner of the business who are corporate officers or Limited Liability Company (LLC) members, must have workers’ compensation coverage.”
What auto coverage must a Florida registration carry?
The Florida Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles department states that a vehicle must have a minimum of $10,000 in personal injury protection and a minimum of $10,000 in property damage liability, held at the time of registration. Florida is the outlier here: its floor is PIP and PDL rather than bodily injury liability, so a business comparing states on a single BI number will not find one.
“have a minimum of $10,000 in PIP AND a minimum of $10,000 in PDL”
This is reporting, not advice. Rules change, and the authority above is the one that changes them — confirm your situation there or with a licensed producer before you act on it.
